Problem/Solution Description Problem I'm receiving the message "Root Web Busy." Solution This most often results when a FrontPage session is interrupted before its completion. To resolve the problem, connect to your Web server via SSH and then access your root Web directory (/[domainname]/www/). Open the _vti_pvt/ directory and delete the file service.lck. Problem I'm receiving the message "Microsoft FrontPage Extensions Not Installed." Solution This error can occur if:
- FrontPage Extensions have not been installed. You must request that we install FrontPage extensions on your account. You can do this from within SiteEasy using the Plan Info module. For detailed instructions, see Installing FrontPage Extensions.
- FrontPage Extensions have become corrupted. FrontPage Extensions are easily corrupted. If you know Extensions have been installed but you are now receiving this message, you will need to contact support at support@easyhost.com to request that these be reinstalled on your account. Because reinstallation of FrontPage Extensions will remove you themes and shared borders, you should make a local, backup copy of your files before you request reinstallation. Once you have been notified by support that the reinstallation is complete, you can re-upload your site. Problem I published my Web site but it is not showing up. Solution You have probably published your files to a subdirectory of your root Web directory. Be sure that you are publishing your files to your root directory (/[domainname]/www/). Problem My counter/guest book is not working. Solution Be sure that the directories, files and/or scripts have the correct permissions. For more information on setting permissions for the /cgi-bin directory or for cgi scripts, see Setting permissions. Problem The search function isn't returning any results. Solution Your root Web directory /[domainname]/www/) needs to be world readable and you must recalculate links before publishing (or after editing directly on the server). If this does not resolve the problem, connect to your Web server and open the /www/_vti_txt/default.wti directory. Delete any files that begin with "ALL." Do not, however, delete any of the other files in this directory.
Once you have deleted these files, delete the same files on your local computer. Then, recalculate your links, test locally with your browser and then publish the files. Problem FrontPage is asking for the host server and directory path. Solution This indicates that your FrontPage Extensions have become corrupted and will need to be reinstalled.
Contact support at support@easyhost.com to request that these be reinstalled on your account. Because reinstallation of FrontPage Extensions will remove you themes and shared borders, you should make a local, backup copy of your files before you request reinstallation. Once you have been notified by support that the reinstallation is complete, you can upload your site. Problem The server is timing out. Solution This occurs when you are attempting to upload a very large Web site with a large number of files. Microsoft recommends breaking the "web" into smaller "webs" on your computer and then uploading each web separately.
FrontPage 2000 provides a "Convert to Web" feature that simplifies this task. For detailed instructions, consult the Microsoft FrontPage online help system available via the Help menu.
