alt text
Short descriptive text associated with an image that displays to users when the cursor is placed over the image. Alt text is helpful for users whose browsers do not display images. You can specify Alt text when you add an image to your page.

audio file
A sound or music file. Audio files end in various extensions, including .wav, .au, .ra, and .rm, among others. SiteCLERK's Creative Kit enables you to manage and add audio files to your Web pages.

background color
The color used for the background of your pages. You can set the foreground and background colors for your site using the Look and Feel Editor.

body layout
The structure for organizing content in the main content area of your pages. SiteCLERK provides three basic body layouts. You can change the body layout in Site Manager.

border
A line surrounding a table or image that help set it apart from the background of a page. You can set the width of borders for tables and images in SiteCLERK.

cell padding
The amount of space (in pixels) between the content of a table cell and the edge of the cell. You can specify cell padding when you add a table to a page.

cell spacing
The amount of space (in pixels) between adjacent table cells. You can specify cell spacing when you add a table to your page.

cloning
The process of creating a duplicate of an existing page. Cloning is particularly useful when you need to make a backup of a page or want to create two different versions of the same page. You clone pages in the Site Manager.

color picker
The tool that enables you to select from a palette of predefined colors.

counter
An interactive element you can add to your pages that counts and displays the number of visits, or \"hits,\" to your Web page.  You can add a counter from the Creative Kit.

Creative Kit
SiteCLERK's tool that enables you to upload and manage multimedia and interactive elements such as audio, video and Flash files.

design
In SiteCLERK, the term for the combination of site layout, site colors and predefined styles. When you create a site, you select the design you want to use. You can then customize different elements of the design using the Look and Feel Editor.

Express Site
Special-purpose site types created automatically based on responses to a series of questions and prompts. Express Sites include Resume and Photo Album.

file size
The size of a file measured in kilobytes (KBs). It is important to know the size of the files you include in your site, as large files can affect the time it takes for your visitors to load a page. You can view file size details from the Site Manager.

Flash
Shockwave Flash files. The files, which end with the .swf extension, are dynamic, interactive files you can add to your Web site pages. Users must have a Web browser plug-in to view Flash files. The Flash format is generated from Macromedia's Flash application. SiteCLERK support Flash files.

footer
Content that displays at the bottom of all of the page in your Web site. Specify the content you want to display in your pages' footer in the Header and Footer Editor. The content is automatically added to every page in your site. If you need to make changes, modify the content in the Header and Footer Editor to update the footer in all pages automatically.

foreground color
The color used for text on your pages. You can set the foreground and background colors for your site using the Look and Feel Editor.

FTP
File Transfer Protocol. A method for transferring your Web site files from your local computer to your Web server. Because SiteCLERK transfers your files to your Web server account for you, you do not need an FTP tool to publish your site.

Full Custom Site
A customizable, multi-page site you build in SiteCLERK. These site types give you the greatest amount of freedom and creative control.

gif file
A type of  image file for use on the Web. These files end with the .gif file extension. SiteCLERK's Image Kit supports .gif files.

header
Content that displays at the top of all of the page in your Web site. Specify the content you want to display in your pages' header in the Header and Footer Editor. The content is automatically added to every page in your site. If you need to make changes, modify the content in the Header and Footer Editor to update the header in all pages automatically.

Header and Footer Editor
SiteCLERK's tool for creating and editing headers and footers for your Web site pages.

HTML
Hypertext Markup Language. The language used to create Web site pages. You can create a site in SiteCLERK without knowing HTML.

hyperlink
A clickable link that takes the user to a specified location. Hyperlinks can point to other pages in your site, other Web sites, files or email addresses. SiteCLERK's Link Wizard walks you through the steps to add hyperlinks to your Web site pages.

Image Kit
SiteCLERK's tool for uploading and managing a collection of images that you can add to your Web site pages. The Image Kit also includes a set of professionally-designed photos and graphics you can add to your pages.

jpeg file
A type of image file used in Web pages. These files end with the .jpeg or .jpg file extensions. SiteCLERK's Image Kit supports .jpeg files.

layout
The term for the overall structure of you site as well as the body of each page. A site design has a site layout. Each page has a body layout. You can add more structure to a basic body layout by using tables.

Look and Feel Editor
SiteCLERK's tool that enables you to customize the look and feel of your site and its pages. You can use the Look and Feel Editor to change the design, customize the existing design, modify styles, change body layouts, change background colors and images and create custom headers and footers.

mail link
A type of link that when clicked launches the visitor's email application, creates a new email message and addresses it to the he specified email address. SiteCLERK's link wizard walks you through the steps for adding mail links to your pages.

menu
The portion of your Web site that provides a set of links to other pages of your site. The menu enables your visitors to navigate your site. Customize and manage your site's menu using SiteCLERK's Menu Manager.

Menu Manager
SiteCLERK's tool that enables you to manage your site's navigation menu. Access the Menu Manager from Site Manager.

meta tag
Optional lines of HTML code in your Web pages that provide descriptive information  about your site, but in a \"hidden\" form that is not displayed by browsers. Some search engines use the meta tags included in your pages to determine if your site is a \"match\" when users use the search engine to hunt the Internet for specific terms or topics. SiteCLERK's Site Manager enables you to assign meta tags to the individual pages in your site.

multimedia
The term for dynamic, interactive content you add to your Web site such as audio, video and Flash files. You manage multimedia content using SiteCLERK's Creative Kit.

navigation
The term for the controls in your site that enable visitors to access the different pages in your site. The menu is the main method of navigation. Individual links within the pages are also part of the site navigation.

Page Editor
SiteCLERK's tool that enables you to add content to your Web pages and edit that content as necessary. The Page Editor's toolbar buttons make it easy to add text, images, multimedia, tables and other content to your pages.

page name
The file name for a particular Web site page. The page name is included in the URL for that page. You can specify a page name when you create a page, or you can let SiteCLERK assign the page name for you. You can change the page name at any time in the Site Manager.

page title
The text at the top of the page that displays to the visitor. You assign a title when you create a page, but can change the page title at anytime.

Photo Album Express Site
A type of express, template-based site that enables you to post an unlimited number of photos, each with a caption, in a Web site template that resembles a traditional photo album. Users can browse thumbnails of your photos and click to view the full size photo.

playback options
The set of options in the Creative Kit that enable you to control how audio and video files on your Web site are activated and how the play.

preview
The act of viewing a site in a browser to determine how it will appear to visitors prior to publishing the site to a Web server. SiteCLERK's preview function enables you to view and test your site before publishing.

publish
The act of transferring your Web site files to a Web server where they can be accessed on the Internet. Because you are logged into your hosting account when using SiteCLERK, SiteCLERK is able to use your account information and automatically publish all of your files to your Web server for you.

refresh (reload)
The browser action that ensures a visitor has the most current version of the Web page. Each time you publish your site, you need to refresh/reload the page.

Resume Express Site
A type of express, template-based site that enables you to build a resume and post it on the Web. A Wizard prompts you for the information to include in your resume and then compiles it in a traditional resume format.

Site Manager
SiteCLERK's tool that enables you to manage site-wide elements such as header, footer, menu and the overall look and feel of your site.

spanning
Merging two or more cells in a table. You can span cells across columns or rows.

style
A predefined combination of a font family, font size and font color. Each SiteCLERK template includes a number of styles used to format text on your Web pages. You can customize these styles using the Style Editor.

Style Editor
SiteCLERK's tool that enables you to customize the predefined styles that control how text on your Web site pages appears as well as the site's background colors and images.

template
Pre-designed sites and pages you can use to build a Web site quickly. SiteCLERK includes a number of templates specially designed for different purposes. You can modify templates as necessary once you create a site.

Template-based Site
A type of site created using one of SiteCLERK's professionally-developed Web site templates. SiteCLERK provides a number of Template-based Sites, including Small Business, Professional Service, Personal/Family and Retail.

video files
A type of multimedia file. Video files end with the extensions .mpeg, .mpg, .mov and .aui. SiteCLERK's Creative Kit enables you to manage and add video files to your Web pages.

Wizard
SiteCLERK's interactive tool that walks you through the steps for completing certain tasks.

wrapping
The term for placing a content item on the page in such as way that the surrounding text \"wraps\" around the borders of the content item. You can specify how text should wrap around an image when you set the image properties in the Image Kit.
